Two women and an 11 year old boy who had gone missing were found dismembered, bagged up and lowered into a hollow portion of a large tree. The daughter of one of the woman was found tied up and gagged in Hoffman's basement. It is believed the planning of this murder was months long due to them spotting a man in camouflage sitting in a tree stump across the way. They would also get random knocks on the door and then nobody would be there. No life was spared as the families miniature Pinscher was found with their bodies.
